Spring update

It has been another busy few months for us, with new projects, new staff and a strong emphasis on developing Drupal-based websites for a range of campaigns, activist-based projects and NGOs.

Hello!

We are very pleased indeed to welcome Barney Laurance to Netuxo. He has actually been working with us since September 2009, but has now been captured completely and recently became a director of the company. Barney is a computer science graduate with specific experience in webserver management and anti-militarist campaigning.

Goodbye :(

While we are very happy to have Barney on board, we are also very sad to announce the departure of our fantastic colleague and good friend Nik Gorecki. Nik has been handling the financial and administrative tasks for Netuxo on a part-time basis for a long time now, but is leaving us to focus on his main area of work at Housmans Bookshop — at our former office premises in Caledonian Road N1. Good luck Nik!

Admin and finance correspondence should continue to be directed to office@netuxo.co.uk.

New projects, new clients, new relationships

Over the past few months we have seen our client base continue to grow in all areas of our business—hosting, support, development—and are really pleased to be working with some great campaigners and NGOs.

We are currently working on two substantial Drupal web development projects and about to complete on a third, we are also building a custom secure filehosting system and a system to map and track arms companies across the UK ... along our usual range of day to day network support and maintenance tasks.

We are also pleased to be developing relationships with more graphic design co-operatives and freelancers. As we engage in more website development work our need for solid graphic design services is likely to grow and fostering good relations with reliable providers is an important aspect. If you are looking for design services for your development projects let us know, we will be pleased to refer you.

Recent completions

You can check out a range of Netuxo-developed projects at the recently updated portfolio. Recent completions include NATOWatch and We Are Many.

Supporting good causes

Last year Netuxo became the technical sponsor for tridentreplacement.net—a database of publicly available documents relating to the government's decision to replace Britain's nuclear weapons system.

Saying "No!" to bad ones

We were recently contacted with a request for services by a trade association—passing itself of as a "non-governmental" (technically correct but a little misleading perhaps). With a little sleuthing we discovered that it was an association for banks, brokers and others involved in carbon trading, including RBS, JP Morgan and a long list of companies which, never mind the highly debatable ethics of carbon trading, we would never want to be associated with.

Lucrative? Maybe. Something we would want to support? No way!

As a company founded on strong principles, we are quite used to saying "no thanks" to prospective clients. Over the past few years we have said "no" to a precious stone dealer, a debt collection company, an employment agency and a company working with leather. We felt that they all profited from exploitation and/or violence.

News from our clients

Disarm Domestic Violence — the first international campaign to protect women from gun violence in the home. Perhaps most shockingly, the greatest risk of gun violence to women around the world is not on the streets, or the battlefield, but in their own homes. This is why IANSA has launched a campaign to demand policies which would keep women safe from gun violence. See http://www.iansa-women.org/disarm_dv

Nuclear Information Service have reformatted their website to provide more of a focus on the latest news about the UK's nuclear weapons programme. The website now includes a regular blog from NIS Director Peter Burt highlighting stories and scandals from the nuclear industry. NIS also has a new Facebook site with exclusive videos and campaign material at http://bit.ly/5JGEGO.
